ABOUT UIA

The House of Umoja, established in 1968, is a highly respected non-profit organization that has spent over five decades developing effective models to reduce violence, foster community development, and empower at-risk youth. With a track record of positively transforming the lives of approximately 3,000 male adolescents and reducing gang violence, the House of Umoja has garnered recognition from prestigious institutions and former U.S. presidents. Operating as a grassroots program in Philadelphia during the 1970s, it effectively mediated gang conflicts and provided guidance and support to both gang and non-gang affiliated youth. Through its family-centered approach, the House of Umoja has successfully helped over 3,000 young minority males overcome challenges and become confident and productive members of society.
