My Story

Marlin Barrier Jr. was born on July 25, 1979, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in the vibrant city and attended Ben Franklin High School, where he laid the foundation for his future achievements. Marlin’s passion for communication led him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with a minor in Sociology at La Salle University, which he successfully completed in 2002. 

 

Marlin Barrier Jr.’s career is a testament to his exceptional skills as a project manager. For more than 20 years, he has worked in the Federal Sector, demonstrating his proficiency in effectively organizing and executing various projects within government organizations. Alongside his professional career, Marlin has also made significant contributions to the music industry for over two decades. 

 

His extensive experience as a music executive professional, music producer, executive producer, and consultant has garnered him recognition and respect within the industry. Marlin Barrier Jr. has had the privilege of working with renowned artists like Madonna, Busta Rhymes, Freeway, Lloyd Banks, Spider Loc, and many others. To channel his passion for music even further, he founded Sound Barrier Productions, a production company that aimed to nurture talented producers and help them reach their potential. 

 

Beyond producing music, Marlin managed two artists, “Thorobred” and “Dutch” (formerly Major Figgas), and played a crucial role in their career development. He expanded his creative endeavors by forming the Live Band, Sound Barrier Experience, which added a dynamic element to his musical ventures. 

 

In 2010, Marlin Barrier Jr. took on the role of executive producer for the album “Realise Ur Dream,” which was a labor of love that spanned an impressive five years. Despite the challenges faced during the production process, Marlin’s dedication and hard work resulted in a remarkable body of work. 

 

Marlin Barrier Jr.’s accomplishments do not end within the realms of music and project management. In his earlier years, he showcased his exceptional athleticism as a Division I scholarship athlete under the mentorship of legendary coach Charles Torpey. As a cross country runner, Marlin achieved extraordinary feats, including being a Philadelphia City Record Holder in 1998 and a two-time Cross Country champion. Furthermore, he secured six championships during his college years before briefly pursuing a professional career on the Nike farm team. Marlin retired from professional running in 2003, proud of his accomplishments on and off the track. 

 

Currently, Marlin Barrier Jr. serves as the Director of International Relations for House of Umoja, a non-profit organization with a rich history of curbing gang violence in Philadelphia during the 1970s. The house of Umoja’s successful model has been replicated across the globe, making a profound impact on communities far beyond Philadelphia. Marlin’s role in this influential organization showcases his commitment to creating positive change and fostering peaceful environments. 

 

Throughout his impressive journey, Marlin Barrier Jr. has exhibited remarkable talent, dedication, and versatility in various fields. His achievements in project management, music production, athletics, and community engagement have shaped him into an individual dedicated to excellence and making a difference in the world.
